    Caltrop Guerrillas Regulations

Caltrop Guerrillas Rules and Regulations:

Caltrop: An iron, four pronged device designed to impede approaching enemy cavalry.

Guerrilla: An irregular mode of warfare of a smaller force fighting a stronger force by sabotage and harassment.

Guerrilla Mission Statement

Our intent as a team is to support the sport through ethical, professional, and legal play.  All team members should exceed their opponents in their playing ethics anytime they are associated with or could be associated with the sport of paintball. We must maintain the highest standard of ethics to protect the integrity of the sport, our team and our sponsors, and to insure that we support and remain a part of paintball through the future.

1) General Info

Our goal is to achieve a reputation as leaders in the "stand up" part of recreation and scenario paintball.  Each and every Guerrilla must understand that everything we may say or do (even if kidding) may be looked at by others in a critical manner.

A) We should remember that any sponsors supporting our team, are doing it as a result of the good reputation we are aiming for.  We will not allow our sponsors to control us.  However, if we are faced with a sponsor wanting us to do something that is to help promote the sport for others we should do it.

B) Remember that we do not play the games to win the prizes nor do we play the games to get awards, we simply play for fun and to help bring fun to others. Our very mission statement spells out how we play the game. It is not why we play. We should play for the fun yet the mission statement reminds us how to play when we do. It is important to note that this also carries over to any off the field situation associated with paintball also. If we are not having fun we should not be playing. If we see others on the team saying or doing anything we feel is questionable (according to the mission statement or "stand up" play) we should immediately say something to them. This is our duty as team members. Each one of us will need this reminder from time to time.

C) Caltrop Guerrillas will not play with red paint.  This is in line with our mission of helping paintball grow.  Red paint only adds unnecessary realism to paintball and attracts critics of our sport.  Before any game we may plan on attending, the guerrilla who is coordinating our participation, will contact the promoter or field operator to insure that red paint will not be used.

D) Individual opinions are exactly that, the opinion of the individual and not the team as an entity. If you agree or disagree with an issue and make a statement you need to put a personal caveat in your statement so that it is not misinterpreted.

If you have a serious issue with someone on or off the team, work it out. If you can not, perhaps you should consider stepping down. Any ugly situations that may occur because of personal issues will only mar the sport, our team and our reputation.

E) Brian “Doc” and Jeremiah “Pickle” are the creators of the name and mission statement of the Caltrop Guerrillas and feel that what they started, the team name and team mission is NOT going to change for any reason. They also have come up with a Democratic system to vote in new members, get rid of problem members, and vote on team related issues like new sponsors or related items.

2) Terms

A)    we are on a Calendar year starting Jan 1st and ending Dec 31st of each year.

B)    100% vote is all active players

  C) 2/3rd vote is two thirds of all active players

  D) Any active member not present at a meeting, will be considered to "abstain" for voting purposes.

E) Clarification of vote:

Any member of the team can initiate a vote.  All active members are required to vote.  If an active member chooses not to vote he may be removed from the team.  The voting options are “yes”, “no” and “abstain.”  An active member can only abstain if there is a conflict of interest.

F) Every month there will be an opportunity for a team meeting (either at a team event or via internet).  All votes are confidential and will be kept on file for one week. If an active member believes there is an error regarding the outcome of the votes he/she may request the votes be made public.  The votes will be made public but not who voted what.  If you want to know who voted what, you will have to contact each person directly.

3) Classification

The Caltrop Guerrillas have different classifications.

A)    The "Guerrilla Leaders" are Brian “Doc” and Jeremiah “Pickle”.  They are the founders of the team and creators of the Caltrop Guerrillas name.  They reserve the right to step in and disband or rename the team if an extreme situation occurs being detrimental to the Caltrop Guerrillas name and reputation.  However, they are not immune to discipline.  They can be removed like anyone else if they do something against the rules.

We have 6 classifications:

  1) Nominee

  2) Active

3)    In-Active

4)    Exempt Member

5) Volunteer

6) Honorary

  B) Nominee

A player must be nominated to become a Guerrilla by an active Guerrilla. The nominated player must play with the team at one major event before an official vote can be made.

  C) Active

Each Active Guerrilla must participate in at least three (3) team events per Calendar year to remain “Active”. One of the three events must be a “Production Scenario”, the other two can be any type of event such as a “Big Game”, Team Practice, Work for our Sponsor, or Work on Team Projects.  Any Member who donates $100.00 or more to the team general fund is automatically considered “Active” for the remainder of the “Calendar Year”, the donation was made in.

Only active Guerrillas have voting rights.

  D) In-Active

Any member that does not remain in contact with the team becomes in-active after six months and can be voted off the team roster at the next meeting.

 (E) Volunteer

A Volunteer is a person that is not a team member, but family or best friend or visitor. This can be a support person, or just a visiting player.  This is an honorary position and has no voting status.

(F)Honorary

An Honorary member is voted to this position. This is an Honor bestowed upon an individual by the team in recognition for his/her Honorable actions, not only in Paintball but in the real world.

4) Becoming a member

To become a Caltrop Guerrilla we will use the following procedure.

  A) Nomination

When an active Guerrilla wants a new player to be considered as a Guerrilla they bring that player to an event and run with the team. The team will then begin a vote on the nominated player.

B)    Team Vote

It will take a 100% vote of all of the Active players to vote a nominated player as a Guerrilla.

If vote is 100% “yes”, the nominee will be required to register on the team site, then submit his/her contact information. The nominee then must read the Guerrilla rules and Mission statement.

If there is not a 100% “yes”, the nominee must be advised of what he/she can do if anything to get a “yes” vote.

5) Removing a member/probation

If in the unfortunate event that we need to remove a member we will use the 2/3rd vote of the Active players.

Reasons for removal may be due to un-sportsmanlike conduct, bad language, fighting (will not be tolerated and is grounds for immediate removal), etc… A warning and placement on 1-year probation may be voted on as opposed to removal. We will follow the probationary player vote to return a player to Active status. There will not be 2 warnings. The second warning is removal.

Remember that at some point they became a Guerrilla because they displayed the stand up traits of the Guerrillas. If you would happen to be the one asked to step down, realize you have been asked because of something YOU did to cause the vote. Please be respectful of us, as we will be respectful of you. Any items you have acquired such as jerseys or other equipment will remain in your possession. However, if you have a banner, it must be returned to the team.

6) Sponsors

We as a team need to support our Sponsors as much as possible. They have chosen to sponsor us and we need to return the honor, by supporting them in any way possible.

Other things to be voted on will be potential sponsors and getting rid of sponsors. When a potential new sponsor comes up we need to bring it before the team for discussion and get the input and opinions from each Active member before we vote.

We will use the 2/3rd vote to vote on the addition or deletion of a sponsor.

7) Team Money

Team funds will be used for various things, such as new banners, patches, offsetting costs of products, etc…

A team fund report will be given at each meeting and is available on the Team Forum. If there is a hot item that comes up before the next meeting, it can be discussed on the forum where a motion to vote can be made.

In order to reap the benefits of the team funds, you must be in Active status. (If you are In-Active or Volunteer you get the discounts the team receives, you just do not get to use team funds to offset the cost, even if the Active members voted to use funds for this). This ensures that the members that are attending games on a regular basis are the ones getting the "goods". As an active member, you are contributing to the team fund by making yourself available for photo ops, etc… which is what earns the team the money.

Before any money is used, a vote will be conducted using the 2/3rd voting rule.

8) Other

Caltrop Guerrillas have adopted the USMC Camouflage (MARPAT) as our uniform. This was done to provide a unique and functional identity that would be utilized in urban and rural terrains.

Any other business or issues for the general good of the Caltrop Guerrillas will also use the 2/3rd vote.

The team website and forum are located at www.caltrop-guerrillas.com. Each member who has internet access needs to log on to the team site at least once a week. It is important to maintain communication and a free forum for discussion.

A Team Ledger will be kept, of all Events participated and attendance. Minutes will be completed and archived for official team meetings.  All official records are property of the Founders, and must be turned over by the record keeper upon request.

We are not really trying to grow, but when we do grow we want to make sure we do it in a positive manner.
